Spring Water
What is Pasteurization?
Pasteurization is a process that kills any microorganisms that could cause illness if consumed, usually involving the heating and subsequent cooling of a food product.

Is Mayer Brothers' Cider Pasteurized?
Yes, Definitely! For years before the FDA demanded it, we've been pasteurizing out products, using flash pasteurization. We currently use two types of pasteurization.
For our cider, we use flash pasteurization, in which we heat the cider to 165°F for 15 seconds and then immediately chill it to below 40°F.
For our other Apple juice products, we pasteurize at 185-190°F and fill our bottles at this temperature. The product is then slowly cooled to form a vacuum packed product.

Where does your water come from?
Mayer Bros. Spring Water comes from our own protected springs; Springbrook Springs located in Concord, NY. Our springs have been inspected by the National Sanitation Foundation and exceed their standards. Our springs have been certified by the National Spring Water Association to be a true natural spring, not a well or borehole as used by many others.

Is bottled water regulated?
Bottled Water is a highly regulated product subject to federal, state, county and industry standards. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates bottled water as a food product.

How frequently is your water tested?
Mayer Bros. submits samples daily to state certified independent labs to test for the presence of bacteria and coliform. We also test daily for total dissolved solids, pH, turbidity, taste, ozone levels as well as several other physical or chemical parameters. In compliance with FDA regulations we submit annual samples for a complete analysis on each of our products to the labs for physical, chemical, radiological, pesticide and herbicide testing.

Is there fluoride in your water?
Mayer Bros. offers a choice for the consumer, offering both our Mayer Bros. Natural Spring and Mayer Bros. Spring Water with Fluoride added. In our Fluoridated water we ad 1 part per million Sodium Fluoride as recommended by the American Dental Society.

How long can we store your water?
The FDA has not established a shelf life for Bottled Water. Mayer Bros. recommends a two-year shelf life and prints an expiration date on all products.

Is there Cryptosporidium in your water?
Cryptosporidium can only survive in surface water such as reservoirs and can not grow in a natural source such as a spring. Secondly, Mayer Bros. uses a one-micron filter on our spring water, which would remove any cryptosporidium or giardia parasites.
